The trend of working in an academic institution is a dream for most nurses working in the hospital; particularly those in the healthcare education career pathway. Likewise, I considered myself lucky to be shortlisted for an interview and later, appointed as Lecturer at the School of Health Sciences, NYP.

My duties at NYP includes:

1. Lecturing in Year 2 (2003 & 2004) and Year 1 (2005) Diploma of Nursing Programme

2. Teach in the Advanced Diploma of Nursing core modules: Legal and Ethical Considerations in Nursing Practice and Health Assessment.

3. Teach the Advance Diploma of Nursing (Critical Care Nursing), module leader for critical care skills.

4. Covers clinical attachments for Diploma and Advanced Diploma students.

5. Non-academic duties include: Time table planner for Diploma programme, open house subgroup member, nurses' day celebration committee (2004), life support instructor and mentor for 2 nursing student group per year.

Simulation activities in Singapore in the early 2000s is limited to part task models and non-computerize full body size manikins. Skills lab teaching include role play with peers (example: physical assessment and patient education), skills performance on manikins and task models with verbal cues given by the lecturer (example: administration of intravenous medication and blood transfusion).
